In the sixties and seventies we used to sing and the three and four part harmony was better than any corner. I love the new trains but the old ones were more open and fun. Cold in the winter hot in the summer but boy did we have fun. I wish there was an old car somewhere so I could show my son.

Definitely seeing someone get stabbed on one when I was 9. Didn't traumatize me or instill a fear of public transportation that required therapy to shake....other than that it's fantastic

I road the El' to my very first job in the shipping department of a storm-window and storm-door fabrication and paint finishing company on East Allen Street. I started part-time during the summer before my 15th birthday back in 1966. I remember going to enrichment summer school classes studying earth and space science at Camden High School in the morning, then I would rush home to Stevens Street and grab my lunch before I got on the subway to cross the Ben Franklin Bridge to get on the El' that took me north of Market Street. It was my first introduction to those East-side neighborhoods which led me to really learn the Northeast. That was about three years before the PATCO Speedline started in 1969.
