Watch the Olympics and you will see the country names are in English on the athletes. They know it is the premier language of the world and they want the world to know who they are. Why do we keep on fighting to make us a third world country. All American schools should be all English to teach students and prepare them for greater things.

I see the usual haters are out in full force. I have yet to read in the Eagle's news stories that the people involved in the St. Anne's skirmish were even here illegally, were they?...or do the OL posters just call everyone who is hispanic "illegal"? This magnifies my relief in ridding myself of that Catholic "religion", those were the worst haters around.

And if the school had decided SPANISH only, what would people be saying?

This is not a matter of whether anyone is illegal or not. This is a case where students and parents want to defy the rules of the school. If you don't like the rules go to another. If you stay abide by the rules in place. The parents aren't teaching their children anything by taking this too court. English is the official language and should be the only one spoken at school. If they couldn't speak English it would be different while learning. In this case it was a where students were defiant and using another language to possibly talk about students feeling they didn't know what they were saying. I have many great Hispanic friends and understand some. And have seen this done by kids and adults. They think they are so clever and no one knows what they are doing. If you live in the USA speak English. I know many who are proud and do. But like everything you have your ten percent who have to be different and ignore the laws and rules of where they are. This time the racist card back fired on them. Thanks to the judge for making a correct decision.

No, the people involved in this case are all here legally. The bigots just hate anyone who is of Mexican background and use things like this to mask their prejudices. Anyone who reads the article can see that the judge was quite unsympathetic to the school's actions; he just didn't see them as against the law.

Indeed I do believe that if Hispanic students are forced to sit with white students at lunch, and the reverse is not true, the school is practicing racist policies. This is not a language issue. It is discrimination.

The thing I see here is parents where parents were trying to defend their children speaking Spanish. You know kids, they may "say" they didn't do anything wrong or "say" anything wrong in the midst of other students. But, what they "say" and "do" are two different things. That is a kid, let's face it. But I stand up for the school and what the Judge ordered. You are here in a Country where English IS the official language. Save your Spanish speaking to home or other places besides school. It is not a matter of discrimination at all and that is the way I see it. If students from other countries speak English, Hispanics should also speak English. It is as simple as that. Don't cry that you are being discriminated against.

Talking in a foreign language when you are around others that do not speak that language is rude and inconsiderate.

Also if (the key word being "if") they were saying inappropriate things there should be action taken. If they were doing it in english the teachers would know if a wrong was happening.

The judge made the right decision.

It isn't hate to want Americans to speak English, it is called being an American. I am so SICK of hyphenated Americans. If you won't be an American, you shouldn't be here. There should be nothing in front of American when you declare your nationality. It is the thinking that people have that they need to put their prior country/nationality before our own that is killing this country. Many people have never set foot in the country/nationality they feel the need to claim, yet they declare that they are *O(&*@#^@-American. Give me a break already. Either you are an American or you aren't.

I guess the parents won't get their big fat settlement check after all.

For once, common sense has prevailed.

The judge is a HERO.

This has nothing to do with being illegal however it does have to do with sending ones children to an english spekaing school in the United States where english is the official language. I'm sure these parents were aware of that rule ahead of time because it was probably in the school hand book that every student is sent home with. It is unfair to not let students sit with whom ever they want to at lunch. That is their free time and the school is wrong in making them sit in a certain place unless all students have a particular seating order where they have to sit. Some parts of this are fair and just and some parts are totally wrong. All schools have the right to implement their own rules but the rules have to apply to every student in the school system not just certain groups.

so Mom says her son is a good boy - I don't doubt that at all...after all boys will be boys and a minor infraction of boundries doesn't mean the kids a bad egg. But, he should respect and obey the set rules and authorities when in the school setting. Is he free to do as he pleases now in puplic school? Are there not boundries and rules set at is current school? Do they all seem fair? Mom, your setting this kid up for a long frustrating road ahead...
