I've heard too many people use the Roaf/Shields leaving excuse and it is LAME. Roaf retired LAST YEAR and Shields originally planned to but was talked out of it by Roaf. If the Worm were a good coach -- a forward thinker, if you will -- he would've started building a new O-line LAST YEAR. There is no excuse for the O-line not being rebuilt and ready, it should've been taken care of before last season ended.
And to those who love to bash Vermile by saying his teams weren't tough, his teams WON and the Worm's don't. With the logic you guys use "Sugar" Ray Robinson isn't as tough a fighter as, oh I don't know . . . say "Hurricane" Peter McNeeley because Robinson was a middle weight and only won 175 fights and McNeely won 47 as a heavy weight (only ever beating bums). Not to say that the Worm is half the fighter that McNeely is -- he isn't.
